About Coach

JOEL MAESTAS

Joel moved to Ohio about a year ago and he began coaching for us at the end of 2022. He also has extensive experience coaching group fitness at multiple gyms throughout the Country over the past decade. Joel’s originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico and studied Exercise Science at the University of New Mexico. He also earned his Level 1 and began coaching at Desert Forge CrossFit in Albuquerque back in 2013. That experience led him on to three separate leadership positions with greater responsibility. In 2014 he became Head Coach at CrossFit HAF in Tampa, Florida. After three years he went on become Head Coach in charge of CrossFit, Weightlifting, & Performance at Primal Empowerment/CrossFit Thumbs Up that’s also in Tampa. After that, Joel moved to New Jersey and became the Gym Manager and Head Coach at Thrive Fitness where he led every side of business as well as developing a nutrition program that produced results for their clients. With everything we offer, and everything he brings to the table, Joel is a perfect fit for what we do at Renegade.

Joel is a CrossFit Level 2 Trainer along with holding his USAW Level 1 Sports Performance Coach certification. He also has his Precision Nutrition Level 1 certification and has undergone training with the company we partner with, Healthy Steps Nutrition. Joel is a strong leader who enjoys coaching group classes but he also has a passion for personal training and working with people individually to help them meet their nutrition and fitness goals. In addition to coaching with us, Joel is also a Sergeant in the Army Reserves where he’s proudly served our Country since 2009. Joel and his wife Yoonme originally came to Dayton because she was hired as a librarian within the Dayton Metro Library system. So far they are enjoying the area while still exploring everything it has to offer. We’re still getting to know Joel but he’s already been another great asset to our community. Please make him feel welcome with some good old Midwestern hospitality.
